Privacy Policy – Sidenote Chrome Extension

Last Updated: October 15, 2026

In short

Your chats and notes are stored in your browser. Text you send to the AI (your messages, selected text, and page text when you ask about a page) passes through our server to an AI model provider to generate the answer, and we do not store it. We keep anonymous daily usage counts to enforce the free limit, and your email only if you join the Pro waitlist. We do not sell personal information.

Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how the Sidenote Chrome extension ("Sidenote," "we," "our") handles information. Sidenote is operated by SellOnLLM. This policy covers the Sidenote extension only. The rest of sellonllm.com is covered by the main privacy policy.

What we do not collect

  • No account. Sidenote does not ask for your name or a login.
  • No browsing history. We do not record the sites you visit. A page is only read when you ask about it or summarize it.
  • No input monitoring. We do not record keystrokes, mouse movement or scrolling.
  • No location data and no advertising or tracking cookies.

Data stored on your device

These stay in your browser's extension storage and are not sent to us:

  • Your chat history (up to the last 50 chats) and your notes, including the page title and URL each note was saved from.
  • Your settings, such as the translation language.
  • A random install ID, a count of how many chats you have sent, and whether you have rated the extension.

You can delete chats and notes inside the extension. Uninstalling Sidenote deletes all of this data.

Data sent when you use a feature

When you use an AI feature, Sidenote sends the following to our server, which forwards it to an AI model provider to produce the answer:

  • Chat: your message and the recent messages in the same chat.
  • Ask about this page / Summarize page: the page title, URL and visible text (up to about 24,000 characters).
  • Quick actions (rewrite, shorten, fix grammar, explain, translate): the text you selected and your chosen translation language.
  • Notes: the note text and the title of the page you were on, so the note can be titled, tagged and, for voice notes, cleaned up.

We do not store the content of your messages, pages, selected text or notes on our servers. Each request is processed and the answer is returned to your browser.

Data stored on our servers

  • Usage counts: how many requests your install ID and your IP address made each day, used only to enforce the free plan's daily limits and prevent abuse. These counts are deleted after 30 days.
  • Pro waitlist: if you join, your email address, the price shown and where in the extension you joined. Kept until Pro launches or until you ask us to remove it.
  • Ratings and feedback: if you rate Sidenote, the star rating and any comment you write, linked to your install ID.
  • Pro button clicks: a record that the button was clicked, linked to your install ID.

Voice notes

Voice notes use Chrome's built-in speech recognition. Chrome sends the audio to Google to transcribe it, under Google's privacy policy. Sidenote never receives the audio, only the resulting text.

Third-party services

  • Cloudflare hosts our server and database.
  • OpenRouter routes AI requests to model providers, which process the text you send to generate a response under their own terms.
  • Google provides Chrome's speech recognition for voice notes.

Extension permissions

  • sidePanel: shows Sidenote in Chrome's side panel.
  • storage: saves your chats, notes and settings locally.
  • scripting and access to all sites: shows the selected-text toolbar on any website and reads a page's text when you ask about or summarize it.

Children's privacy

Sidenote is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices

  • Delete chats and notes in the extension at any time, or uninstall it to remove all local data.
  • Only use page and selection features on content you are comfortable sending for AI processing.
  • Email sellonlllm@gmail.com to remove your waitlist email or feedback.

GDPR

We process the data above to provide the features you request (performance of a service), to prevent abuse of the free plan (legitimate interest), and, for the waitlist, with your consent. You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, or object to its processing, by emailing sellonlllm@gmail.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

CCPA

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents can email sellonlllm@gmail.com to ask what we hold or to have it deleted.

Changes to this policy

We update the date at the top of this page when the policy changes. The current version is linked from the Chrome Web Store listing.
