Where to upload llms.txt on your platform

Static sites, Next.js, Vercel, Netlify: put llms.txt in your public or root folder and redeploy.
WordPress: upload it to the site root over FTP, or publish it from admin with the free SellOnLLM WordPress plugin.
Shopify: Shopify doesn't allow files at the domain root directly, so use an app such as the SellOnLLM Shopify app.

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt (sometimes written llm.txt) is a Markdown file at your site root that gives AI assistants a curated map of your most important pages. It complements, not replaces, your sitemap and on-page SEO.

Is the generated file spec-compliant?

Yes. It follows the llmstxt.org format: an H1 site name, a blockquote summary, and H2 sections of Markdown links with short notes, ending with an Optional section.

Does llms.txt help with Google or ChatGPT?

Google has said it doesn't use llms.txt for Search. AI assistants, agents and developer tools do read it to get a clean summary of a site. Treat it as a quick, low-risk addition alongside good SEO and structured data, not a ranking factor.

Is llms.txt the same as an XML sitemap?

No. A sitemap is the crawl inventory; llms.txt is a human- and model-readable brief of what matters most. Many sites publish both.

Where should I host the generated file?

Upload llms.txt to your domain root so it is reachable at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt, then confirm discovery with a technical audit. Legacy llm.txt is still checked by our tools.
